Baton Rouge native here. But been living in Athens for nearly 30 years. So I get a cool college town with great weather and hot coeds ever fricking where.
I go back home on the regular and get reminded no matter how much I still love Baton Rouge I don’t think I could handle that next level heat or traffic anymore.
Yes BR has some rough areas and some ugliness but it has plenty of charming areas too and yes the food selection is awesome. And even the rough areas are interesting (in the daytime) I love going up to Tony's Seafood on Plank Rd. That’s a rough area but I think the folks i meet there are pretty cool.
I need an EBT card for boiled crabs!

Great response!
With good money you can live in good areas with no problems and enjoy a good life. Most of BR is good and safe. But the heat and the traffic are killers for me. Some day they will fix the traffic…. But that heat is forever. Still, I’d choose it over the blistering cold months in Michigan. Just the food, fishing and women are enough. And yea, Tony’s is a game changer. We never leave BR for home without a 100 count tray of Tony’s Cajun boudin balls. Damn we love that place.
