What’s to stop a team from targeting the kicker on the first PAT in the Super Bowl?

The thought that your kicker could get it next usually keeps this from happening.

What? If that’s your goal, why kicker? Why not QB or coach?

This is why you stash Tom Tupa on your roster.

Just to drop in...Not every team has a Ray Guy.

Ray Guy is not only the greatest punter of all-time...

But he kicked a then-NCAA record 61-yard field goal in a snowstorm during a game in Utah.

He also subbed and played as quarterback for the Raiders.

Those multipurpose guys are long gone.

NFL coaching circle is small, if someone did that they may be ostracized

The rules, the potential for retaliation not to mention severe repercussions both officially and socially

they don't carry another guy that is only a placekicker.
but typically there is someone else on the roster capable of performing the duties in an emergency. and that person is obviously not nearly as good as the actual kicker.
