Ole Miss Tuohy taught him to read.

Ole Massa Tuohy taught him to tie his shoes.

Exactly. It sounds factual that he received nothing from the movie.

The questions are if the Tuohys lied to him about their compensation.

And if the Tuohys lied to him about the conservatorship.

One thing that seems clear...when the movie deal was being struck, no one was looking out for Michael Oher's best interests. No one.

Link?
N/M I think I see it. Weirdly hard to track down some of these details due to all the info out there, many of it conflicting.

If that is the case, then the Tuoy’s went out of their way to present the story in the movie as if he had been adopted as a member of the family.

No, the Hollywood scriptwriter and director went out of their way to do that. Maybe the Tuohys had a role in that. Maybe they didn't.

Hollywood is in the business of making entertaining movies, not movies about boring realities. In 2013, Argo won the Oscar for best picture. Some have said it should have won the Oscar for best fabrication of the truth. In the climactic scene, where the Iranian soldiers with guns in trucks are chasing the plane with the Americans on board down the runway, that never happened at all. On the day the six Americans left Iran, they went to the airport that morning with their fake Canadian passports, got on the plane, and left, without any incident. But that would have made for a pretty boring ending, and the movie never would have won an Oscar. That's not to say the Americans' lives weren't in danger the whole time they were in Iran. But the real ending of the story was a helluva lot more boring than the movie ending.

Never let a little truth get in the way of a good story.

If you'd have said Jackie Coogan, I'd have known who you were talking about. But then again, I'm old.

The Addams Family. They just don't make TV like they used to. Great dialogue, entertaining characters. And Morticia was hot.

LINK

It's in there.
Fall 2003, Oher living with five different families, including the Tuohys.
Oher was 2003 first-team all-state.
Before spring practice 2004 Lemming names Oher #1, and college coaches are watching his spring practice.
Leann Tuohy takes him in "after a track meet", which was after the 2004 football spring practice started.

I couldnt read the story, paywall.

I saw some references that he didn’t play football until his junior year and that the Tuohy’s allowed him to, he had previously only played basketball and track. Which would make their involvement earlier.

In another interview Mike said the main thing that vexed him about the movie was it showing him as being totally ignorant of football and having to be taught by Leigh and family, which he said was way off because he had been following it for years. But he didn’t mention that he had won those accolades prior to their involvement, which is strange.

I was digging through many links on this when I realized I don’t really care, have no dog in the hunt at all, it’s just a nice story that would be nice if true.

Note to self, no good deed goes unpunished. How long until a NIL
Organization or University gets sued
by a former player ? Can no longer
support semi pro players masquerading
as student athletes.

In the movie, if I recall correctly, all of the characters were called by their real names, even Nick Saban. Why was the high school coach referred to as “Burt” and not by his actual name, Hugh?

NIL is at least a legit business arrangement. This was not a "good deed" and if you couldn't smell it from the get go then you're a mark.
