It's pretty myopic to only look at the past five years, and the success we've had under Bruce, as the determining factors for comparing the quality of the two jobs. What was our overall record prior to Bruce's tenure? How many coaches out there have both the balls, and more importantly the ability, to take control of a program that was truly a bottom dweller and turn it into a perennial conference contender in what is now one of the deepest conferences? I'm not saying that Arkansas is in a better position at this exact moment, but historically speaking it probably is a more attractive head coaching opportunity. We really lucked into getting Bruce, and without his salesmanship, coaching ability, and work ethic we would likely still be rotating through the Barbees and Lebos of the basketball world. Auburn is a football school, through and through. It took years and years of hard work on the part of Bruce and his staff to get our basketball program to where it is now. How many coaches out there are looking to put in that kind of effort over the long term? I think staying relevant long-term, especially at a place like Auburn, is a battle a lot of the top guys are going to likely shy from.

What if I told you in April 2019 that over the next 5 years a team from the state of Alabama would make 3 sweet 16s, win two regular season SEC Championships, two SEC tournaments Championships, make a Final Four, and be on the brink of a National Championship and that team wasn’t Auburn.

It’s amazing what Bruce Pearl has allowed to happen under his watch.
