I have more faith in pitching at this point and that’s scary.

On paper we have enough to make it through two games. Five of the seven guys that made up our pitching staff throughout SEC play are available.

At some point we’re going to have to pitch guys like Coil and Foutch if either of these games is interesting.

Both shined at times earlier in the SEC slate, and both and stopped getting used after being hit a couple of outings. Foutch hasn’t pitched since Lipscomb, and Coil hasn’t pitched since the Vandy series.

DVH would sooner get McEntire warmed up again I’m afraid.

This will always be his downfall, not giving younger guys more chances and riding the same old tired arms.

Foutch and Coil both worked in the SECT.

Coil pitched .2 innings against aTm in the semi’s and gave up 2 hits and a walk but didn’t allow a run.

Foutch also pitched .2 innings against aTm in the semi’s. 0 hits allowed but did walk a guy. No runs allowed.

I’m not saying the old tired arms work much better but the younger arms have shown us time and again this year that they wilt under the big stage.

But I agree that if today’s game(s) are going to be close at all, these guys are going to have to step up to the occasion. Beginning with Wood

I just don't see 18 innings of arms left.
Maybe Smith can come out and throw 3-4, Wood 3-4, Hollan 1-2, Morris 2-3 Then it's what's left of the pen, the young unproven arms.

Ah crap you’re right. I remembered DVH lamenting not getting Foutch in in the early game of the SECT and misremembered the rest.

That is sort of how I see it, but I'm not sure TCU's arms are super deep either. Do everything you can to win the first one, then hope we can out bat them in the second game

Agreed.

To your point, even if we somehow hold down their offense and get the bats going (which is a pipe dream), it’s a math problem at this point.

TCU has had zero pressure put on their pitching staff the last few games. Conversely, we’ve been behind the 8 ball from the beginning.

Yesterday was literally the best possible series of events for TCU. Beat us to get into the catbird’s seat for the regional championship, jump out to such a lead that they don’t have to use any quality bullpen depth, and then watch us have to use up 2 of our quality arms (and then have to use Hollan for the last out) because we were in a dogfight in the elimination game.

100% agree with Feral here.

The ONLY thing we have going for us is if we can somehow win the 2pm game, you have to think TCU will get super tight for the night game and we will have some momentum on our side and I’m sure Baum will be rocking.

I might add if we win it in the same fashion as they did yesterday.

My only hope (pipe dream)

Hollan has to be big today if we're going to advance. Comparatively light workload and some semblance of rest while not being much of a hard thrower. He's got to eat innings to give us a shot.

If we can win the afternoon game maybe we make their collective butts pucker tonight. Let's reverse NC State this thing

DVH will let any of these guys throw 5-6 innings if they’re up to the task. I’m not saying they will be but I’d throw out convention today. If Hollan or Smith are dealing, they’ll pitch until they’re not, Hollan specifically. We need one if not both of them to put in major work today.

DVH pulled off an SEC regular season title with smoke and mirrors, let us be honest. And I don't say that to mock him or the team. We have found ways to win games and series we probably should have lost all year long.

The problem with the find ways to win games formula is eventually you reach a point where you can't find a way to win a game. You need to have the talent to just beat someone.

This team reminds me of Missouri in football after they joined the SEC. They kept finding ways to win games and made it to the SEC championship... only to get bombed. We may be in danger of having reached the get bombed stage.

The miracle would probably be game two getting pushed to tomorrow.
