The emergence of Wood, no pun intended , has allowed Smith to move back into the starter role along with Tygart coming back.

I can’t believe no one has made a “we’ve got Wood” shirt

What we’re doing is nothing short of a statistical anomaly. Just look at our conference rankings in several categories:

Defense. Overall Arkansas is defending at a .978 clip. In SEC play, they are defending at a .984 clip. Not giving away league games is the biggest thing.

Lead the league in double plays during SEC play. Second in the league in fielding pct. Only Vanderbilt defends better in league games at .985

These stats weren't expected about a month - month and a half ago.

We’ve played like the national seed of misfit toys all season.

Now we’re finally getting enough people back we may have a chance to make a run at it. Plus we’ve moved around so many people in so many situations that I’m very confident in our flexibility. It’s like the opposite of ‘21 where the pitching approach was Wick, Kopps, and if that fails drink bleach.

It’s baseball, anything can happen, so all you can really ask for is a chance to make a run and enough boos to aid your emotions along the way.

Phil and Bubba mentioned some numbers on their podcast that were interesting and a testament to the job DVH has done keeping this team on track this year.

8 different Hog pitchers have a save in SEC games
7 different Hog pitchers have started an SEC game
17 different position players have started an SEC game for Arkansas

One more: we’re 26-3 with Parker Rowland starts at catcher (10-9 when he doesn’t)

Make that man’s knees more tired than Charlie Boyce’s arm by the end of the season

Play him out in the USC and Vandy series and then let him rest during SECT.

I’ve said this multiple times this season, but for all his faults at the plate Rowland is really good behind it.

He’s a really good defensive catcher, and that’s one position where I’m willing to eat mediocre offensive production in the lineup, because it makes your pitchers settle in and saves (or avoids) a few potential runs via passed palls that don’t happen as well as backpicks and runners caught stealing.

Hell, Opitz wasn’t exactly Mike Piazza with a bat either, but he was incredible on defense.

And the catching position in general is usually not one that heavily relied on for production. He's done enough to not be an automatic out which early in the season it appeared that was the case.

I expect us to hit the portal very hard for a C.

Well, we have 2 top 100 C's signed in Ryan Helfrick and Ty Waid. We need both or at least one to make it to campus and hope to God that Polk is not being retained. Rowland will likely be playing here as a senior. I don't see any team drafting him.

The staff really needs to go all out in bring in a couple of SS. If Bolton returns and is starting again next year...

I'm sure that will be a priority. I see no path to him starting. I figured he was out of time anyway.

This is Bolton’s covid year, so he’s out of eligibility.

Same for Wegner, unfortunately.
