Is it the Michigan OC or this guy?

Addition by subtraction. Subtract-azio is what needs to happen, and hopefully a new OC will get a chance to bring in his own OL corch.

Some of the D corches need to be replaced as well.

On one hand it would be nice to see him hire somebody younger who might have some new ideas but on the other the fact that the guy has a weird deal where he shares playcalling makes me worry as that feels like a way Jimbo could essentially keep calling plays but have a guy to blame if shite goes south. Also, it would be fairly frustrating for Jimbo to pick somebody that we wouldn’t be able to announce until after signing day.

Acutally listened to the ESD press conference yesterday, usually dont bother but listened on my drive home from work. At the very end one of the reporters asks him about the OC (who he doesnt seem to be in a rush to announce, but I digress) and who will be calling plays, and Jimbo says something to the effect of "I hope the OC will be calling them because I have a lot on my plate, and need to be freed up. The head coach's job has changed so much over the last 2 years its crazy and there's a lot going on during a game on saturdays".

While it's good to still hear what we are all hoping happens, I still cant help but be dissapointed it took a 5-7 season for him to wake up to the reality the game has changed so much. We arent paying a guy 9+ million to learn on the job, he's supposed to be one of the best and already know what he's doing.

Oh well, lets just see who we hire and how it looks heading into spring practices.

So he's basically now slowly inching away from giving up running the offense and is completely making up bullshite as to why his playcalling has sucked the last two years acting like being the HC during a game is somehow different than just 5 years ago.

Brent Z now floating the inside WR coach at USC as a potential hire. Looks about as exciting as a wet fart.

wtf not even a current OC? there’s no way. If he does that he’s got to win big next year or he’s out.

Luke Huard. He was on A&M's staff as an analyst before going with Lincoln to USC. Hope he unlearned a lot in a year away.

So those worried that Fisher wouldn't really turn over the offense may have a legitimate concern. That sucks

I disagree with you here. I think Fisher is 100% right, the game has changed in terms of the roll a HC has to play. My issue is Fisher is about a year or two too late on realizing it

How is game day coaching any different from a managerial standpoint today compared to when we joined the SEC?

I agree he has to think about a bunch of stuff like NIL and the transfer portal he didn't need bother with before but that stuff has nothing to do w/the consistent offensive issues we have had under him. Those issues were occurring at FSU too. These are not things that only started "in the last couple of years".

The only rule change I can think of that could have much effect on an offense from a game management standpoint is the 40/25 play clock which in theory should actually make things easier as a play caller b/c it standardizes what the play clock will be in any given situation.

To me it sounds like he is in full denial mode and in his head he's still thinking "It's not my offensive system, the way I coach, or my play calling at fault. It's all this other stuff to blame."

He has to negotiate contracts with recruits now, so he needs more time to brush up on his contract law knowledge. Jimmy Sexton is his tutor so we are in good hands.

Gameday coaching isn’t any different but there’s way more that goes into being an overall HC than there used to be.
I’ve said this before, Jimbo can’t call plays, talk to the QB about coverage, get the right personnel in and manage the clock. It’s just too much. He figured that out a few years too late. Just my opinion tho

We looked hard for an OC, when we just needed Luke Huard.

Brent Z with another PNW OC option, Ryan Grubb, currently in the same position at Washington under DeBoer (and also his OC at Fresno St).

quote:

Grubb is the Huskies’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Kalen DeBoer. Grubb played receiver and running back at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, in the mid-1990s.

The 10-2 Huskies, who face Texas in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio on Thursday night, rank second nationally in total offense with 522 yards per game. Grubb spent the prior five seasons with DeBoer at Fresno State, and in 2020 and 2021 the Bulldogs led the Mountain West Conference in total offense.

Grubb in November became the highest paid assistant in Huskies history at $1.45 million annually starting in 2023 and his contract escalates slightly over the following two years. He has been an assistant at Washington, Fresno State, Eastern Michigan, Sioux Falls and South Dakota State.

Gotta believe that his name came up but for a position coach on offense. Too green for OC.

Turned down by the Washington OC as well. I'm encouraged by the names that have turned us down so far, so that is something. We will find out in January
