Nice win for Men’s Tennis

The No. 24 Alabama men's tennis team (13-8, 2-3 SEC) captured a pair of commanding wins on Sunday, defeating No. 25 Florida (8-8, 2-4 SEC) 5-2 in a Southeastern Conference matchup before securing a 7-0 sweep against Alabama A&M (4-7).

Alabama swept the doubles point in both matches as the UA pairings of No. 74 Filip Planinsek and Andrii Zimnokh as well as Enzo Aguiard and Zach Foster recorded wins over Florida and Planinsk and Matic Dimic in addition to Foster and Zimnokh posted victories against Alabama A&M.

In singles action, Zimnokh, Matias Ponce De Leon and Matic Dimic recorded wins in both matches. Roan Jones tallied a victory against Florida, while Aguiard, Foster and Yair Sarouk added wins to UA's sweep against Alabama A&M.

From Head Coach George Husack
"This was a weekend of response that began Friday night during the singles and continued throughout the next 48 hours. There was a good vibe at practice on Saturday as the guys didn't let the South Carolina nailbiter impact their preparation for today. Our start in doubles was really good and then we needed to keep our focus when rain forced us inside. We had some tight matches up and down the lineup and the guys showed their willingness to compete. Super response by Roan this afternoon after Friday night as well as Matic who came back in his three-set clincher. Matias and Andrii both bounced back with impressive performances this weekend after our UGA, Vandy road trip. Zach, Enzo and Filip played solid doubles while Yair found his rhythm and rolled this evening. And finally, after a tough match against Florida another positive response tonight against Alabama A&M. Very proud of them and their effort. Being at home with our fans was a treat too."

The Alabama rowing program's Third Varsity Eight+ crew received Boat of the Week honors after its performance in the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite in Oak Ridge, Tenn., the league office announced Wednesday.

The 3V8+ crew was one of five Crimson Tide boats to claim a first-place finish last weekend against Wisconsin and North Carolina, with all three teams receiving votes in the Pocock/CRCA Week 1 poll.

After being scratched from the morning race due to illness, the 3V8+ crew crossed the finish line in 7:15.903, seven seconds ahead of the Badgers and Tar-Heels. For six of the nine crew members, this race marked their first ever collegiate race experience on the water.

This is the first conference weekly honor for the Crimson Tide of the 2024 campaign.

Hell yeah! Get Margo another raise for 2 points in 2 relays

So heading into the final day of the meet we're in a 4 way tie for 21st, with swimming juggernauts Purdue, Utah, and LSU. We're in that great spot of as close to being a top 20 team as we are to being southern Illinois' equivalent we're not seeded to score a single point for the rest of the meet.

Avery Wiseman recorded her third Second Team All-America honor at the 2024 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships to pace Alabama on the final night of competition.

Wiseman went 2:07.37 to capture the third-fastest time in the B final and secure an 11th-place finish overall. The Second Team All-America nod was the third of the meet for the UA junior, who also picked up second-team honors in the 100 breaststroke (10th place) and the 200 medley relay (16th place) earlier in the week.

Overall, Alabama had five student-athletes capture 10 All-America honors as Gaby Van Brunt, Kailyn Winter and Cadence Vincent secured the honor in both the 200 medley relay in addition to the 200 freestyle relay (12th place) alongside Diana Petkova. The Crimson Tide finished 23rd in the team standings with 25 points, recording a top-25 finish for the 10th consecutive season (excluding the 2020 championships which was cancelled due to the COVID pandemic).

From Head Coach Margo Geer
"I'm proud of the team and their effort all week. This group did a great job of being resilient through the ups and downs of the competition. There was so much growth from our freshmen. I'm also very grateful for our upperclassmen – Avery, Diana, Liberty (Williams), Kailyn and Jocelyn (Fisher); it was great to see the team's hard work rewarded. I appreciate the staff and their support this season, and I'm excited for the men's meet next week."

Tied with SMU, where associate head coach Oswaldo Quevedo went. SMU didn't score a single point last year and in 1 year is equal to us.

Charlie has had a solid meet. Went a tad slower in finals, but moved up a couple spots. Had a great swim this morning in 200 free, seeded 4th tonight. Meanwhile a Margo runoff athlete dropped the fastest 50 breast relay split in history and is seeded first going into finals tonight for the 100 breast.

And former bama swimmer, grad transfer to nyu med school, derek maas got robbed of d3 swimmer of the meet. Won all of his 3 events, yet they gave it to someone else

Before the opening night was finished, Carson Burian took the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase crown behind a 9:04.20 performance.

Across the opening day, Alabama picked up 17 top-10 finishes, nine of which coming within the top-five threshold behind the backs of Ruben Banks in the men's weight throw (fifth | 65.77m (215-09)), Robinson and Clayton Elder (fifth | 51.43) in the men's 400-meter hurdles, Burian, Hudson Hurst (third | 9:10.15) and Carter Waters (fifth | 9:14.12) in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, as well as Lemons, Brandon Passmann (second | 14:19.09) and Will Pinson (fourth | 14:30.87) in the men's 5,000-meter run.

For the first time in program history, Alabama had two swimmers earn All-America honors in the men's 200 freestyle as Charlie Hawke tallied first-team accolades and Kaique Alves picked up second-team honors. The duo highlighted the third day of competition at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships as Hawke captured a fourth-place finish and Alves finished ninth.

Hawke posted a time of 1:30.58 to finish fourth in the event, tallying his third overall All-America honor at the meet and second first-team nod following a fifth-place finish in the 500 freestyle on Thursday. Hawke is the first Alabama swimmer to earn First Team All-America honors in the 200 freestyle since Jon Olsen in 1991. His time in the finals was three hundredths of a second shy of a career best, which he recorded as Wednesday's 800 freestyle relay leadoff swimmer (1:30.55).

Alves earned a Second Team All-America selection in the 200 freestyle. He used a career-best time of 1:31.68 to take the top time in the B finals and finish ninth overall. Alves also picked up second-team honors earlier in the week, swimming the 800 freestyle relay, alongside Hawke, on Wednesday.
