We got 2 measly hits but managed to win 2-0. Beavers gave up a lot of runners but got out of it.

Excellent turnout for the “wear teal for Alex”game. Good to be above .500 in conference play too.

Kayla Beaver throws a complete-game shutout, Abby Duchscherer’s two-run double makes the difference

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball handed Texas A&M just its third shutout loss of the season, 2-0, Saturday afternoon to open the weekend series at Rhoads Stadium.

With two on and two out in the bottom of the second inning, Alabama (30-8, 7-6 SEC) took the lead over Texas A&M (31-9, 10-6 SEC) on a two-run double from Abby Duchscherer. The Aggies went on to strand a combined five runners on base through the sixth inning, with the score remaining at 2-0 heading to the top of the seventh. A trio of groundouts retired Texas A&M in order in the final half-inning, securing the game one win for the Crimson Tide.

Kayla Beaver (14-3) pitched her 10th complete game of the season and her sixth solo shutout, striking out six while not allowing a baserunner past second base. Duchscherer's two-run double was her sixth two-bagger of the season and the game her team-leading eighth multi-RBI game of the season.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"Alex [Wilcox] was an incredible young lady who played at Mississippi State and was originally from Alabama. She came from a great family. She unfortunately passed away after battling ovarian cancer and Mississippi State has done everything perfectly to honor her family and raise awareness for the disease. They have been unbelievable ambassadors. The entire SEC does this on one Saturday every season and it's one of the coolest things we do as a conference. As far as today's game, the offense wasn't really there but we just needed the one. Abby [Duchscherer] needed that hit. She's been working really hard. She comes early, stays late and never complains. She had two strikes and she came up with one of her biggest hits of the year. [Kayla] Beaver and the defense did the rest. We had two great plays in the top of the seventh to finish it off."

7-5 with Torrence pitching and she is not looking good. No outs and gave up a run. Sloppy play by our players in a run down and obstruction will probably be called. Should be no outs and runners on one and two

17 to something now. it is obvious we dont have a true number 2 pitcher who can keep it close in the SEC vs good teams. In Beavers in trust. and the only one I trust

It was basically batting practice out there for A&M today. Desperately need to win the series tomorrow.

Alabama softball dropped game two of its weekend series to Texas A&M, 17-6, Sunday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.

Alabama (30-9, 7-7 SEC) found itself in an early hole after Texas A&M (32-9, 11-6 SEC) scored three runs in the top of the first to take the early lead and then added three more in the top of the second to double the advantage to 6-0. Leading off the bottom of the second, Bailey Dowling sent the first pitch of the half-inning over the fence for a solo home run to erase the shutout but A&M got the run back with their own solo home run in the top of the third, pushing ahead 7-1.

With runners at the corners and one out in the bottom of the fourth, Jenna Johnson dropped a single into shallow right to drive in Kinely Pate before Kali Heivilin was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A popup and groundout got the Aggies out of the jam however as the Crimson Tide was only able to get the one run, trailing 7-2 heading to the fifth. With two on and nobody out in the bottom of the fifth, Kendal Clark slugged a three-run homer to left field, making it a two-run game at 7-5.

The Aggies got all three runs back in the top of the sixth, retaking a five-run lead at 10-5. An RBI single from Kenleigh Cahalan in the bottom half made it 10-6 but the Aggie offense exploded for seven runs in the seventh to lead 17-6, which ultimately proved final.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"Jocelyn Briski usually gives us a good start and today it just wasn't a good one. A good start in the circle is the key. The pitcher has to keep us in it for as long as they can until we score some runs. Offensively, we had bases loaded with one out and were within striking distance, and if something in that situation goes our way it's a totally different game. It was 7-2 at the time, and we just missed an opportunity there. We came back within two when Kendal Clark hit that three-run home run, which was a big shot, but it just wasn't enough. We can't make three errors either."

it was 4-4 top of 6 and we are self imploding and Beaver is doing herself no favors with her play. 3 errors in this inning and we are now down by 3.
