We aren't winning any national titles in softball anytime soon.

That will most likely continue to be the case after Murphy retires.

I disagree. We need a great pitcher and a solid back up. We need ladies who can hit with power and average.

Right now we have no clear number 2 behind Beavers. OUr team BA is around 280 and we leave too many runners in scoring position on base. We need a Hemphill. I think it is UF who has most, if not all, of their starting rotation batting at 300 or higher. right now we have 5 with 3 of those just at the 300 line. JJ is below 270

Nice to get a win to open a series - injuries starting to mount - Giles out 2-4 weeks with an arm injury and Loren Johnson took a ball to the knee and had to come out of the game tonight.

Alabama softball shut out Ole Miss, 4-0, Friday night at Rhoads Stadium to open the weekend series.

Alabama (27-8, 4-6 SEC) took the first lead of the game over Ole Miss (21-16, 3-10 SEC) after a Bailey Dowling triple eventually led to an RBI single from Kendal Clark in the bottom of the second. In the bottom of the fifth with two out and the bases loaded, Kenleigh Cahalan ripped a double into the gap to drive in all three runners and make it a 4-0 game. With the score the same in the top of the seventh, the Rebels loaded the bases with two out to bring the tying run to the plate before a long fly ball to center ended the game.

Kayla Beaver (12-3) pitched her ninth complete game of the season and her fifth shutout, striking out nine while only allowing one baserunner to advance past second base. Cahalan's three RBIs on the double ties her career high and marks the second time this season she has drove in three. Kendal Clark had her third multi-hit game of the year, going 2-for-2 including the RBI single.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"I thought Kayla Beaver pitched great, except for that last inning where we gave them a glimmer of hope. We need to clean that up. Kenleigh Cahalan had one of her biggest hits of the season with that bases-loaded double. Bailey Dowling got the triple and then Kendal Clark rips one to left to bring her home. We worked on timely hitting all week in practice and that's what we did today."

Briski pitches a complete game. Bama wins the series and is one win away from .500 in conference play.

Alabama clinched its first SEC series win of the season with a 5-1 win over Ole Miss Saturday evening at Rhoads Stadium.

Alabama (28-8, 5-6 SEC) jumped on Ole Miss (21-17, 3-11 SEC) quickly in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs on a hit, fielder's choice, error and bases-loaded walk. An RBI single from Bailey Dowling in the second increased the lead to 5-0 but the Rebels got one back in the top of the fourth on a throwing error to make it 5-1. Jocelyn Briski (6-1) and the Crimson Tide defense only allowed two more batters to reach base safely the rest of the game, holding on for the four-run win.

Briski went 7.0 innings in her first career SEC start, taking home the win with just one unearned run allowed on six hits and two walks. Jenna Johnson scored twice batting third while Bailey Dowling went 2-for-3 from the five hole, her fifth multi-hit game of the season. Kristen White extended her current hitting streak to five games while Kendal Clark now leads the team with a seven-game reached base streak.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"I'll take that first inning any day. It was huge to get the bases loaded with nobody out and then we got the single to move everyone up a base and then just put the ball in play twice to get two more runs in that inning. The way things have been going for us at the plate this year, we needed an early inning like that. We have been hitting balls hard but just right at people all year long, so maybe the tide is turning in our direction a little bit. Jocelyn Briski was great in her first SEC start. I was really pleased with her performance and I think she got better as the game went along. Getting a series win in this league is always huge and it doesn't matter who it's against. We needed that in front of a great crowd out here tonight."

After clinching the weekend series yesterday, Alabama secured the sweep with a 5-1 win over Ole Miss Sunday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.

The win gives Alabama (29-8, 6-6 SEC) its first series sweep at home since 2022 and its 14th sweep all-time in a three-game series vs. Ole Miss (21-18, 3-12 SEC), including seven at home.

With two on and one out in the bottom of the second, the Crimson Tide took the first lead over the Rebels on a towering three-run home run from Kendal Clark that bounced off the scoreboard. Kali Heivilin made it a 4-0 lead with an RBI single in the third and the score remained the same until Ole Miss erased the shutout with a two-out RBI double in the top of the sixth. Emma Broadfoot stretched the lead back to four with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth before reliever Alea Johnson and the Alabama defense closed it out in the top of the seventh.

Seven different players in the Tide lineup earned a hit, including a double from Kenleigh Cahalan to extend her current hitting streak to five games. Broadfoot's home run was her third of the season and Clark's her second, with Sunday marking the 10th multi-homer game of the season for Alabama, including four games in SEC play. Kayla Beaver (13-3) threw 4.2 shutout innings in the start to earn her second win of the weekend while Alea Johnson backed her up 2.1 relief innings for her third save of the season.

From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"When you can hold a team to two runs across three games, it says a lot about your pitching. Kudos to Lance McMahon and all our pitchers and catchers. Riley Valentine did a great job this weekend, especially since it's the first time she's caught all three games in a series. Today, Kendal Clark got up and after that pitch for the home run. She told everyone in the dugout she was going for that first pitch and she almost cleared the scoreboard. The defense and the pitchers did the rest. I don't care what team you're playing against, it's a feat to get three wins in the SEC over a weekend."

Only if the next coach is also unwilling to hire a good hitting coach.
