Senior Thomas Ponder finished in fourth overall to lead the Alabama men's golf team at the Watersound Invitational, which concluded play Wednesday. The Crimson Tide finished the three day, 54-hole tournament in 10th place with a team total of 4-over par 868 (287-301-280).

Ponder ended the event with a season-best score of 8-under par 208 (66-75-68), his best 54-hole tournament score since last year's Watersound Invitational where he placed sixth overall at 11-under par 205. As a result, he secured his second top-five finish of the year and fourth of his career.

The three-day, 54-hole event, which was co-hosted by the Crimson Tide, was held on the par 72, 7,246-yard Sharks Tooth Golf Club course in Panama City, Fla.

Head Coach Jay Seawell Comments
"This was a great way to start the spring season. It was exciting for us to co-host down here at such a great course as Shark's Tooth and the Watersound folks have always been very gracious to us. They put on a great tournament and it's a pleasure for us to co-host this event with Florida State.

No quit in @BudCauley.

A 2018 car accident left him with injuries that forced him to spend over three years away from professional golf.

The Florida native persevered and now holds the solo lead in his home state @The_Cognizant.

Got stopped by an older gentleman on 18 yesterday at the API. He said “quick, name an Alabama player in the field!” I replied, NICK DUNLAP.

He reached in his pocket and handed me a ball signed by him. The guy walked with his group and kept their official score. I tried to find a kid in Alabama gear to give it to but couldn’t find one.

Alabama men's golfer Canon Claycomb finished in second overall to lead the No. 21-ranked Crimson Tide men's golf team to a runner-up finish Monday at The Hayt. As a team, the Tide closed the three-day, 54-hole event with a 1-over par 865 (282-293-290), only four strokes behind No. 1-ranked North Carolina for the team tournament title.

Claycomb led throughout much of the tournament and finished just one shot back of earning his third career medalist honor, closing the event at 2-under par 214. In addition, both Jonathan Griz (T6th, E) and Thomas Ponder (T11th, +1) each finish among the top-12 golfers.

The Crimson Tide earned its third top-three finish and fourth top-five result in six tournaments played this season.

Head Coach Jay Seawell Comments
"After the Watersound Invitational, our guys did a good job regrouping and focusing on playing well this week. They have been positive and enthusiastic about this opportunity and getting to play on this course. I am proud of the way they responded. They've really had two good weeks of practice, and I'm a big believer of if you practice well, you're going to play well. And, I think they did just that so I am happy with the response following our first tournament.

As a team, the Crimson Tide carded a score of 21-under par 267 – the lowest total in relation to par and the second-best single-round score in program history – to take a nine-stroke lead after 18 holes played.

Alabama, the defending champions of the event, had four golfers finish among the top-10 (Griz in first, JP Cave in third and Thomas Ponder and Jones Free tied for sixth), three of which finished with bogey-free rounds (Griz, Cave and Canon Claycomb).

In all, Alabama collected 24 birdies, one bogey and one double bogey throughout its record-setting day.

Absolutely absurd day for @AlabamaMGolf

Griz shoots the 2nd lowest score to par (3rd lowest score overall) with -10/62

The team -21/267 appears to be the lowest to par in school history and 2nd lowest score overall
