I read an Athletic article about how he poured over data the last year or two post LSU to evaluate what he would do different if he took another job. I know those are largely puff pieces but at least encouraging he was self evaluating. S&C was a huge part of the results the last two years after Schmidt left so it’s a very important hire

His list of protégés is impressive too. Cochran, the guy at ohio state, Vic Viloria. Bo Davis and Corey Raymond were S&C interns with him at LSU before they got into position coaching. He also worked with those late 90s Miami teams. A lot of those 2001 Miami guys were trained by him.

Seriously, Elko hasn't made a bad hire yet. I like his staff so far.

New DC will be announced soon according to Elko's press conference

Florida's LB coach Jay Bateman announced as DC.
Trying to see some data on him, apparently was DC for Army 2014-2018 but thats all I see for actual coordinator duties. Hopefully a good recruiter? Wondering what Florida fans think of him.

He called plays for UNC from 19-21 as Co DC and was fired. I’ve liked the hires up to this point but this one looks pretty rough on the surface. He does look to be a strong recruiter

This is the first hire I have no idea about, and it is an important one. Bateman will be calling Elko's defense but at least they know each other and philosophies align.

I guess so. Seems kind of like he struck out pretty damn hard on other options if it took this long to hire a guy the day after signing day who was currently a LB coach and was fired from his last P5 DC gig.

There's been talk on other boards that he was under contract to stay with Florida through early signing day and that's why it took until now. Some credence to that as we did get a few surprise commitments yesterday from a couple of Florida players we initially werent leading for.
I think the only strikeout was the FSU DC, its not like Elko has been turned down by 5+ guys and this was the best we could do in a scramble.
There's actually a really good post over on texags right now thats calling out all the complaining over any of our recent hires. Look at our last staff (really 2 staffs), we went out and got big names and where did that get us? Remember stealing "the chief" from LSU? Every Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney, Kirby Smart, etc. starts from somewhere. Give the hires a chance. Seems like the pessimistic crowd has written the guy off less than one day into the job.

I like the rest of the staff but this one I have serious questions about. People can rationalize it as “well this is Elko’s defense anyways” but that’s not what we were sold when he was hired.

lol wut? The top 2 guys I liked for HC were Fritz and Elko. All I'm saying is getting a DC this late who flamed out hard at UNC (was shredded by Jimbo/Mond in the Orange) makes it seem like we were rejected more than once.

As good as it tastes Kool Aid is bad for your body. Don't drink it. TexAgs and King Billy will rationalize and/or put a positive spin on ANYTHING so a post that scolds people for questioning hires is simply par for the course over there.

#1) I wasn’t specifically calling you out, although your post did have a slight pessimistic ring to it. Just speaking to the fanbase overall.
#2) I know better than to trust everything that comes out of Liucci‘s mouth, the post was actually started by a well respected poster on premium, not any of the texags staff.

Seems the defensive recruits have serious questions as well. Evans isn’t going to sign with A&M, and I’d be surprised if Dom did either. Terrible DC decision has consequences

Elko hiring his TE/Special Teams coach from Duke

Seems like a good time to say, even though Elko wasn't my first choice, thank goodness we didn't hire Stoops for 9+ million a year. And, oh yeah, Fire Bjork for trying to push him across the finish line.

TexAgs’ Billy Liucci has reported that the Aggies have hired former Auburn/Florida assistant Wesley McGriff as DB Coach

So far the DC is the only questionable hire. We will see. WR coach all that is left?
