I got my private pilots license in Starkville, KSTF.

I am doing the same, but man it has been anything but calm. I am flying in winds I probably wouldn't if I wasn't on a timeline. Nothing unsafe obviously, just not something I would choose to do. In the end it will make me a better pilot though.

I was surprised at all the flights Saturday with a TFR. I was one of the flights, but we had a clearance for ours.

After I got my license I would go out there by myself and do lots of touch and goes when the winds got high just to get my landing skills up with high winds. Of course, I never pushed it to be unsafe.

KSTF is plenty wide and long. I kept missing the center of the runway so my instructor had me fly over to Ackerman.

You either hit the center or not at all, that runway was tiny in comparison. That was the first solid smooth landing I ever made. Had to, that runway looked like a pencil as compared to KSTF.

Just thought of this when rereading your post. There is a game day TFR in affect in Starkville or any other large venue.

AT KSTF you can take off headed on runway 18 and head south to southwest and never get close to the restricted air space.

If you take off north using 36, you have to bank West before the end of the runway to stay out of the restricted space. No real task to do it but it's not something I recommend since it takes you out of normal traffic patterns. Know your obstructions and your plane well before you do this.

The only way to land legally is 36 though. Enter downwind at 45 degrees on the west side or do a straight approach and you should be fine.

I would not do it if it was as busy as it gets on game days out there.

Game days the plane traffic is stacked with jets, bigger prop plane and single engine planes and no tower to control it. I just stayed away most days or got out there really early and didn't return.

You should not turn before the end of the runway at towered airport without getting permission though. There are some further IFR restrictions as well, of those I am not familiar. 400 ft AGL and 1/2 mile past the end of the runway rings a bell but don't quote me on that one. I am only a VFR pilot.
