Boy, were we wrong. Rock is still popular 60 years later.

They weren’t right. But rock seems to be dying a slow death and is hardly popular. I don’t see 1 rock song on billboard top songs chart (granted I don’t know all the artists).

Country and rap are the only things selling.

Just glance at pop culture in general. People bitch about rap, its not just rap. Its movies, literature, pop music....

Art has been killed by soulless materialism, superficial challenges and chasing shiny objects.

It is popular on YouTube reaction videos but those are old songs.

Country music is selling because they sold out.

Bluegrass is trending up to do to Billy Strings.

Shreveport has a large black population and a lot of white CW fans. But they still have 2 radio stations that only play rock. A medium size market town supporting 2 stations playing 60 y.o. music is unusual.

BTW, I hear Frank Sinatra era stuff at Starbucks. I told the barista "Ya know, the people who bought his records are all dead. They're not in here buying coffee."
She laughed and said: 'Oh, we think it sucks, too. But we can't control what music is played.'

And calling what that is “country” is a specious argument at best.

True country music died with Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings.
