I know this isn't new but why was Bryan added to your location?
it's used to be only College Station. what am I missing?

Two cities of similar size growing into each other.

See Minneapolis-St Paul, for reference.

Nothing has changed. The greater metro area is B-CS. The campus is in CS

College Station had a mayor named George Bryan and he was so beloved that they added his name to the city.

The area has been called that from the outside for as long as I can remember. The only difference is that a year or two ago, they decided that Bryan could refer to itself as Aggieland like College Station does.

Most people only know about CS when they think of A&M but actually Bryan has been there long before CS came around. Bryan has been around since 1871

A&M was established 6 miles outside of Bryan, Texas. There was a train station stop at the university that was called College Station. As the town grew around the university, they adopted the name College Station.

The cities basically grew into each other. Think of it as a small version of Dallas-Ft Worth or Minneapolis-St Paul.

It’s only recently they started putting Bryan College Station on tv graphics and publications. Not sure what deal got done with the city of Bryan & A&M.

It’s because Bryan has contributed to a number of A&M athletics projects. So, the SID asks broadcasters to include Bryan. They are still very much separate cities.

Traditions Golf Club where the A&M golf team plays is located in Bryan plus the RELLIS Campus is also located in Bryan so Bryan contributes a lot to A&M

Yep, was a little confused when I saw the OP as it’s been referred to as B/CS forever, I grew up here and people have always said both. Just like it’s D/FW.

Hadn’t thought much about the branding though, maybe A&M stuff is mentioning B/CS more than just CS now and as mentioned above, the city of Bryan has contributed a lot of resources to various things tied to the university so maybe part of the deal is increased recognition of both cities.

This.

Originally there was just a lonely campus out there. It is hard to believe that pre WWII there were only 2K in the town of college station.

Clemson has a similar history where the school was there first and the town existed later.

Thank you - someone with an actual answer to OP instead of just vomiting out garbage anyone with Google maps can see or history that has nothing to do with the recent change
