I was speaking with one of the minor sports coaches who said Kirby constantly has upperclassmen in his office complaining that freshmen are getting more per month than they are, or underclassmen threatening to enter the portal if they don't get paid more.

I can't imagine the additional headaches this causes for someone who's working 15+ hours a day.

I think it's gonna end up pushing him and many top coaches to the NFL. I mean it's a complete mess with no way to control it. I wouldn't blame him either.

The impression I get is that this is happening everywhere. It's one reason Kirby has pushed back against bidding wars for HS recruits. That's how you win the battle and lose the war when your locker room gets toxic over money issues.

Especially after the Tennessee court ruling, some programs think they can spend their way to success, and maybe some will have short term success. The long term consequences will be ugly. I hope Kirby can continue to maintain some discipline in how much we pay kids before they earn it on the field. If necessary, let the high school prima donna with his hand out go elsewhere, and try to make it up with smart talent eval and good coaching.
