The computer systems they use to run people records and get them directions etc take time to boot up and in the case of emergency those seconds/minutes matter. If you ever get to look inside a modern police cruiser it basically has an entire computer to the right of the drivers seat.

God forbid they go anywhere without their radar gun or ticket printer fired up and ready to collect and serve. Gotta generate some revenue to pay for all that fuel they piss away.

Don't they have supplemental batteries and UPSs and so forth for things like that? Are they really running a whole computer system off the single Diehard battery under the hood? The same battery that runs the vehicle? If that's the case then you can't convince me there isn't a better solution than leaving the vehicle running almost all day and night and doing all the engine damage that's being done and wasting of fuel.
