The last several commits have really felt like we're scraping the frick out of the bottom of the barrel.

This. I've never heard of the schools we're getting these guys from.

He doesn't need to. There is no appeal to play at Arkansas right now.

this. We literally have a lame duck head coach. I will never understand why Hunter thought it was a good idea to bring sam back, unless we really are too damn broke to fire him.

Seems like we’re just going for depth at this point. I don’t mind guys from small schools since there are a ton of them in the NFL but the QB is a weird one. Barely even has any stats.

The Arkansas Razorbacks have used one of their remaining six scholarship spots on a junior college transfer, as Hutchinson Community College running back Tyrell Reed announced his commitment to the Hogs on Friday.

A 5-foot-9, 205-pound bowling ball, Reed carried the ball 132 times for 833 yards (6.31 yards per carry) and 13 touchdowns as a freshman for the Blue Dragons last season. The Topeka, Kansas, native averaged 75.7 yards per game with a season-high 171 yards against Ellsworth C.C. on Sept. 2.

Reed had three multi-touchdown games with his most coming against Dodge City C.C. on Oct. 7 (four touchdowns).

According to Reed's X bio, he runs a 4.48 laser 40-yard dash and a 10.47 in the 100 meter. He'll look to serve as a quality depth piece for an Arkansas team that has already lost two running backs in the transfer portal this offseason in Dominique Johnson and Isaiah Augustave.

Since entering the transfer portal, Reed has received offers from programs like Austin Peay, Kansas, UMass, Akron, Temple, UTEP, East Carolina and Wyoming.

Following Reed's commitment, the Razorbacks now sit with 80 scholarship players on their projected roster.

Arkansas is back up to five scholarship running backs for the 2024 after landing JUCO product Tyrell Reed of Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College. The 5-9, 205-pound speedster was offered Thursday and wasted no time in letting head coach Sam Pittman know of his decision to call the Hogs on Friday.

Reed was a full qualifier out of a Lawrence (Kan.) in the Class of 2023 after transferring over from Highland Park in Topeka, which means he's eligible to leave Hutch and officially join the Razorbacks this summer. Reed, who clocked a 4.36 handheld and a 4.48 laser forty-yard dash, chose the Hogs over Temple, East Carolina, UMASS, Akron, UTEP, Austin Peay, and McNeese State.

"It felt great," Reed said. "It was like a business thing for me. I'm just ready to get to work. I knew I was going to be a Razorback when they first started recruiting me, so let's sign the paper and get to work."

As a freshman in 2023, Reed rushed 132 times for 833 yards and 13 touchdowns through 11 games while sharing carries with Brandon Epton (now at SEMO) and dual-threat quarterback Samari Collier (now at Louisiana).

Reed has been clocked at 10.47 in the 100-meter dash, making him one of the Razorbacks' fastest players once he steps on campus for good later this month.

Reed first appeared on Arkansas' radar in March when he arrived in Fayetteville for a one-day unofficial visit with the Razorbacks. He returned for the Hogs' spring game on April 13 and had hopes of becoming their sixth scholarship running back over the summer, but Arkansas was full at the position until last week when senior Dominique Johnson decided to enter the transfer portal.

"The highlight of the visit was as soon as I stepped into the facility everybody welcomed me with calling the Hogs," Reed said. "It was really great for all the staff that was there to welcome me in even though I wasn't committed at the time. They welcomed me in and greeted me like family."

Reed joins an Arkansas running backs corps that features redshirt-senior Ja'Quinden Jackson, junior Rashod Dubinion, redshirt-sophomore Rodney Hill, and true freshman Braylen Russell. The Hogs added Jackson in the winter portion of the transfer portal window and Hill during the 15-day spring window, making Reed Arkansas' third new tailback since January.

According to 247Sports, Reed is a three-star prospect, the No. 132 overall junior college prospect in the nation for the Class of 2024, as well as the fourth-ranked running back and 33rd overall JUCO recruit in the state of Kansas for this year's cycle.

With the addition of Reed, Arkansas now has just five scholarships left to fill before the start of the 2024 season. The Razorbacks will welcome another transfer visitor to campus Sunday when defensive lineman Decarius Hawthorne of Florida Atlantic.

Former BYU defensive lineman Danny Saili has committed to transfer to the Arkansas Razorbacks. Saili, 6-3, 355, went public with his decision on Monday, the second of a two-day official visit with Sam Pittman and the Hogs.

Saili, the Hogs' seventh transfer addition of the spring cycle, is a Topeka (Kan.) native and good friends with Arkansas' other most recent commitment, running back Tyrell Reed of Hutchinson Community College, where Saili became a heavily-recruited target prior to signing with BYU in December of 2023.

Saili entered the transfer portal on April 30 and received new offers from Arizona and Houston before the Razorbacks stepped in and got him on campus for a visit. Saili's two parents and three sisters also joined him on the trip to Fayetteville.

The interior defensive lineman will have two years of eligibility remaining when he officially joins the Hogs later this month. He hopes to spend them improving his chances of playing beyond college.

"There's many reasons (for choosing Arkansas)," Saili said. "First of all, it's SEC Football. That's the highest of high that you can play in college. I want to be developed the right way so I can achieve my dreams. They can help me and I can help them ultimately at the end of the day.

"I think there is no other conference in this country that can prepare you for anything like the SEC. The SEC is going to get you right for the NFL and that's just what I need."

Arkansas' defensive scheme also attracted Saili to Fayetteville.

"The defensive scheme and how the defensive line gets to go out there and show their talents. They are out there to make plays and that's what really attracted me here."

"I saw that none of them left in the transfer portal. Which really shows how good the room is. They are close enough to push each other and close enough not to leave. So I want to be part of that. I'm just excited to be a part of it."

Here's more on Saili from BYU's official website:

A three-star junior college prospect with a composite score of 88 on 247Sports
Played two seasons at Hutchinson Community College
In 2023, had 21 total tackles, four sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss
Added a forced fumble, pass breakup and blocked a field goal
Named to the 2023 Jayhawk Conference First Team
Posted 18 total tackles in 2022 with one sack and 3.5 tackles for loss
Also recruited by Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Arizona, Maryland, Miami, NC State, Georgia Southern, Texas State, McNeese, Towson, UMass and Stephen F. Austin

Arkansas landed a commitment from BYU transfer defensive lineman Danny Saili, he announced on Monday afternoon

The 6-foot-3, 355 pound native of Topeka, Kansas, transferred to the Cougars by way of Hutchinson Community College, where Arkansas running back signee Tyrell Reed also came from.

Saili was named to 2023 Jayhawk Conference First Team for racking up 21 tackles, four sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss. He flipped his commitment from Texas Tech to BYU back in December and he hit the portal again on May 1 after spending the spring with the Cougars.

"Yeah [Saili] is going to be a guy that's going to be on the field," BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said this spring. "We've gotta get him in playing shape, but we're starting to see a lot of the big guys doing a lot of good things."

Saili will provide much-needed depth on the interior of Arkansas' defensive line. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Former 4* WR joining the Hogs

Khafre Brown, who went public with his decision five days after wrapping an official visit in Fayetteville (Ark.).

Brown, 6-0, 195, is a former four-star and was the 33rd wide receiver in the nation in the Class of 2019. The Charlotte (N.C.) native spent his first three years at North Carolina where his older brother Dyami Brown, now with the Washington Commanders, also played his collegiate ball. The younger Brown has 958 career yards and 8 career touchdowns through 39 games played.

Arkansas wide receivers coach Ronnie Fouch has landed more help at his position ahead of the 2024 season. The Razorbacks added a commitment Monday from former North Carolina and South Florida wideout Khafre Brown, who went public with his decision five days after wrapping an official visit in Fayetteville (Ark.).

Last season for the Bulls, Brown pulled in 27 catches for 435 yards and five touchdowns. He entered the transfer portal on April 17 and committed to the hometown Charlotte 49ers three days later, but a late visit in Fayetteville, that ended on the final day of a 15-day transfer window, helped sway Brown to the Razorbacks.

"It's a great program," Brown said. "I like the offense here. It's a good family environment here. A lot of football lovers around here. It's a great environment for the SEC."

Fouch and Arkansas kept Brown off the radar until after he arrived on campus, but the receiver said an opportunity to check into an SEC program was too much to turn down.

"I was going to visit once I got the text from him anyway, so he didn't have to convince me too much," Brown said. "He asked me if I was interested in here and I said for sure."

Brown, who reported a 10.52 100-meter dash as only a ninth-grader, hopes the bigger stage will result in an opportunity at the next level.

"I think playing in the SEC would definitely help my draft stock," he said. "Having that sheet behind you playing the best teams in the country, I think that would really help."

The addition of Brown brings Arkansas' total of incoming transfers to seven since the beginning of the spring transfer portal window. He joins a spring transfer class that also includes former Coastal Carolina transfer quarterback Blake Boda, former Florida State running back Rodney Hill, former Syracuse offensive lineman Joe More, former Jacksonville State linebacker Larry Worth, former BYU defensive lineman Danny Saili, former Marshall linebacker Stephen Dix Jr., and former Utah State Nickel Anthony Switzer.

Arkansas also wrapped up a visit Friday morning from JUCO running back target Tyrell Reed, who chose the Razorbacks over the weekend.

Brown also joins an Arkansas corps that includes 11 other scholarship players, including three seniors in Tyrone Broden, Andrew Armstrong and Isaac TeSlaa, two juniors in Jaedon Wilson and Bryce Stephens, two sophomores in Jordan Anthony and Isaiah Sategna, and four freshmen in Davion Dozier, Dazmin James, Krosse Johnson, and CJ Brown.

Head coach Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorbacks have landed a transfer wide receiver, as South Florida's Khafre Brown announced his commitment to the Hogs on Monday.

A 6-foot-0, 195-pound North Carolina native, Brown caught 27 passes for 435 yards and five touchdowns for the Bulls last season. His most productive game came against Western Kentucky, when he totaled 95 receiving yards and a touchdown on three catches.

Each of Brown's five touchdown catches came in separate games, with the final coming in the Boca Raton Bowl over Syracuse on Dec. 21, 2023.

Ranked as a four-star prospect out of high school, Brown originally chose the North Carolina Tar Heels over offers from programs like Tennessee, Alabama, Duke, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State and others.

During his freshman campaign at North Carolina, Brown was spectacular with 15 catches for 337 yards (22.5 yards per catch) and two touchdowns. After suffering a lower body injury during the offseason leading into his sophomore year, Brown was never able to fully recover and only played 78 snaps during the 2021-22 season.

The speedster took his talents to the transfer portal and ended up at USF, where he's combined for 496 yards and five touchdowns on 31 catches in two seasons.

According to Pro Football Focus, Brown totaled 431 snaps in 2023-24 and finished with an overall offensive grade of 63.0 — incuding a pass grade of 66.3.

Following Brown's commitment, the Razorbacks now sit with 81 scholarship players on their projected roster.

The Arkansas Razorbacks got perhaps one of the most intriguing prospects to join the football program Tuesday, as former Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Monte Harrison committed to play wide receiver for the Hogs, a team spokesperson confirmed to HawgBeat.

Harrison, who is 28-years-old, will join the Razorbacks as a preferred walk-on at a position where he was rated by Rivals as a four-star in the class of 2014. At that time, Arkansas was offered for his football services, as he was recruited by former assistants Jim Cheney and Michael Smith.

Harrison also held offers from Nebraska, Indiana, Kentucky. Missouri and others coming out of high school. He turns 29-years-old on August 10, which is well before the season starts.

He committed to and signed with Nebraska, but opted to play baseball after being drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the second round of the 2014 MLB Draft.

Harrison bounced around the minor leagues for a while before making his MLB debut on Aug. 4, 2020 with the Miami Marlins. In 32 games for the Marlins, he hit .170 with one home run and three RBI.

The Lee's Summit, Missouri, native was released by the Marlins on March 26, 2022 and signed with the Angels the following week on April 5. He was promoted to the MLB roster on June 24 and elected for free agency on Oct. 12.

Harrison joined the Brewers organization in Jan. 2023, but was released the following September.

Harrison is not the first professional athlete to join the college ranks, as former NBA star JR Smith played college golf for North Carolina A&T after his time in the NBA.
