Two Alabama women's tennis players, Loudmilla Bencheikh and Priya Nelson, earned Southeastern Conference weekly honors, after leading the Crimson Tide to the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic title for the first time since 2015.

Bencheikh earned Player of the Week for the first time this season, while Nelson also earned her first honor after being named Freshman of the Week. The two's performances led then-No. 35 Alabama to wins over three ranked teams, including then-No. 42 Arizona (4-3), then-No. 24 Illinois (4-1) and then-No. 22 Texas Tech (4-2).

No. 31 Bencheikh won two of her three singles matches, including a three-set victory to clinch the match over then-No. 24 Illinois' Megan Heuser (4-6, 6-2, 6-2) after the junior fell behind in the first set. The junior defeated No. 59 Cristina Tiglea of then-No. 22 Texas Tech also in three-sets (3-6, 6-3, 6-0) during the Tide's come-from-behind victory over the Red Raiders for the title.

Nelson played a huge role in Alabama's 4-2 win over then-No. 22 Texas Tech after filling the sixth spot in the lineup during the last match of the weekend to clinch her singles match against Jermine Sherif, 7-5, 7-6(5), which finalized the title for the Tide.

You think the job she's doing is acceptable. It's obvious you're riddled with retardation.

I’m not the one proclaiming I know everything about the sport, that’s you. Since you think you know how to do it better, go apply for the job.

If you can convince the AD you should have it, more power to you.

I just don’t panic when a program which hasn’t won the SEC in men’s since 87 and the women’s since 85….doesn’t win it. (Yes I had to look it up)

I'll certainly claim I know more than 2 people with 0 college swimming experience, you and Byrne.

Yeah, I have 0 faith in a guy who ran off the only bama swimmer to set a world record or become director of our national team.

I don't expect us to equal uf or incoming texas. What I do expect is a team demonstrably better than south carolina, Kentucky, or LSU. That bar is hilariously low, but...

Not even competitive, thinking I'm upset about not being first Margo was hired at the same time auburn hired ryan wochomurka. See where we are today? Ryan inherited an auburn team that didn't even score at NCAAs we finished 15th and 5th that year.

These 2 hires are so far apart it's literally painful to watch. From inheriting a team that didn't even score at NCAAs to doubling us up at conference in 3 seasons flat. I hope I've used enough non swimming terms to demonstrate how bad it really is.

I played Becker, which is a bit of a clue at my level. I don’t have a conniption because Bama hasn’t won the SEC in men’s tennis since I was playing in high school.

Ryan inherited a program that’s won the SEC how many times in the last 25 years? Apples and Bananas comparison.

Again, I looked. Since 97 2 teams have won the SEC in men’s S&D, Florida and the barn. Kentucky who you tossed out there won the women’s in 2021.

Were not them, were not magically going to become them overnight.

You'd be upset if we were consistently losing 5-2, to subpar conference foes. It's not the lack of winning the conference, it's how fricking poorly we're doing in the process.

He inherited a team much worse than what Margo was handed, point blank. Their results under Marsh, minus what Wocho learned from him as an auburn swimmer, are wildly irrelevant to today. Kids signing today were in diapers the last time auburn swimming did anything relevant. They're not exactly turning the corner because of all the Zimbabweans inspired by kirsty coventry in 04 or 08

We were in fact better than them under pursley and skinner. In under 3 seasons we're much worse than them, again. Our coaches got worse, theirs got better. It could not be more obvious by the results.

We finished 5th at NCAAs that year, they were 11/12th. A really anomaly that season for them. Crazy how quickly they've unraveled without lars jurgensen, and we're only 9 months removed for his resignation.

On the opening day of the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Alabama men's and women's track team competed in the weight throw, represented by Ruben Banks and Chandler Hayden.

Banks' 23.05-meter (75-7.50) throw originally resulted in a third-place finish, however after a protest, the junior dropped to fourth in the men's weight throw final standings. Despite the protest, the junior still recorded the farthest mark by a Southeastern Conference thrower. On the women's side, Hayden launched a 21.37-meter (70-1.50) throw to secure 10th place.

At the conclusion of day one, the Alabama men's contingent sits in fourth place.

The second day of the national meet will get underway at 3:30 p.m. CT Friday with Khaleb McRae and Chris Robinson set to compete in the men's 400-meter dash prelims.

In the final event of the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships for the Crimson Tide, Doris Lemngole registered a bronze-medal winning performance in the women's 3,000-meter run after crossing the line in 8:50.70. Lemngole's time is a new personal best and improves her already second-best time in program history by 2.4 seconds.

In the same event, teammate Hilda Olemomoi also captured a podium finish with a time of 8:55.88, giving the junior a fifth-place finish.

Over on the men's side, Tarsis Orogot clocked a 20.46 in the men's 200-meter dash, giving the junior a fourth-place podium finish.

The men's 4x400-meter relay squad of Hasani Barr, Samuel Ogazi, Khaleb McRae and Chris Robinson followed suit with a fifth-place finish after clocking a 3:03.94, a mark good enough for fourth all-time in program history.

At the conclusion of the national meet, the Alabama women's contingent claimed two bronze medals and two podium finishes as the men captured three podium finishes.

In the team standings, the Crimson Tide women finished 11th with 23 points as the UA men took a share of 15th place with 14 points. The results mark the fifth consecutive top-20 finish for the men and the fourth top-20 finish in the last five years for the women. In total, the Alabama track and field program now holds 16 total top-20 team finishes at the NCAA Indoor Championships over the last decade.

They added a 3rd men’s team (and an inaugural women’s team). I haven’t had the time to sort out the D1, D3 and AUU (or AAU) leagues and what is what. Would see a tweet that Bama won followed by a tweet that Bama lost - and just didn’t take the time to get a handle on it. One of the teams was still playing as of last week - if/when I ever get an understanding I’ll post what I find.

Eight Alabama student-athletes will represent the Crimson Tide at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships held March 27-30 at the IU Natatorium, on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), in Indianapolis. Alabama will have 14 entries at the national meet including three relay events.

Kaique Alves, Charlie Hawke and Tommy Hagar were selected to swim in a trio of individual events, while Jake Marcum earned a spot in both backstroke competitions.

Seeded in the top 10 in two of his three individual races, Hawke paces the Tide with the NCAA's second-fastest 200 freestyle (1:30.75) and ninth-fastest 500 freestyle entry time (4:11.62). He was also selected to compete among the nation's elite swimmers in the 100 freestyle (42.31).

Alves joins Hawke as one of the top 200 freestylers in the county, entering as the 11th seed with a time of 1:31.97. He was also selected for the 100 freestyle (42.28) and 200 individual medley (1:43.89).

In his first season of collegiate swimming, freshman Hagar secured a selection in three individual events. Highlighted by a time of 1:40.20 in the 200 backstroke, he recorded a 46.46 in the 100 backstroke and a 1:45.34 in the 200 individual medley to claim his spot at the national meet.

A dominant backstroke specialist, Marcum was selected to compete in both the 100 and 200 event races. He is seeded with a time of 47.24 in the 100 backstroke and a time of 1:40.10 in the 200 backstroke.

In addition to UA's individual selections, Alabama will send Leonardo Alcantara, Bernardo Bondra de Almeida, Tim Korstanje and Zarek Wilson to Indianapolis to compete in three relay events. UA qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 medley relay and both the 400 and 800 freestyle relays.
